Quick QB Question...

If Tarvaris Jackson was released by the Vikings tomorrow, is there a team in the league who would pick him up?

PLEASE COMMENT WITH YOUR ANSWERS - give me possible teams and would it be as starter, back-up or 3rd string?

I bet Jackson would end up somewhere as a 3rd string option. The Vikings have invested too much into him, and Jackson himself has done enough work that I'm sure there are several teams that would risk taking a chance to build upon all that he has learned and done in the NFL thus far.

I agree with John. Jackson probably ends up carrying a clip board for a team somewhere. However, he is not a starting quarterback at this point. He's playing like a rookie -- and hasn't yet shown the ability to throw a ball with touch. Everything that gets completed is a rocket -- which is impressive when it's an accurate throw, but all too often it's behind the receiver or bouncing off a defender's arms, chest or helmet. I'm not convinced that more experience will help him with with his accuracy and "softer" passing skills (screens and over-the-cornerback's-shoulder throws). However, somebody out there probably likes his arm and mobility enough to pick him up as a back up. Maybe.

I'm sure he would get picked up as some teams are really hurting at QB. But the fact remains we are starting a guy that would be 3rd string QB just about anywhere else in the league.

I could see him going somewhere like Atlanta, Carolina, San Fran, Arizona, etc. Places hurting from bad QB play this year. He's still got potential (hard to see now, but it's still there) to be a starting QB in the NFL. If he was released right now and went somewhere else, he'd be a 2nd string at best. (Only a starter if forced in by injuries) He hasn't proven that he can be a starter yet. He's still big, mobile and has a rocket for an arm, but that hasn't been enough to be successful.
